The Compost
Facility at the Miller Creek Plant
produces a Class A product similar to that marketed at your local garden supply store as
top soil. It's competitively priced, tax is included. You can pick it up directly at the
plant (map).
A look at the compost process:
We mix anaerobically digested and dewatered Biosolids with wood chips from local tree
cutting service companies and place the mixture in the compost building located at Miller
Creek. When the compost material has achieved a temperature greater than 131 degrees
Fahrenheit for a minimum of 3 days, it can then be rolled into the next compost bin. The
rolling of the piles is done a minimum of three times, and sometimes as many as five
times. Pile temperatures are taken daily, and adjustments to air blowers are made to keep
the compost in a temperature range of 131 to 150 degrees.
After compost cures it is sent to an independent laboratory for fecal coliform analysis.
Strict Department of Ecology and EPA guidelines for pathogen reduction are followed.
Compost is not made available for sale until all regulations have been met. This process
can take from 90 to 180 days from start to completion.
We compost more than 90% of the Biosolids from Miller Creek wastewater treatment plant and
sell 100% of the compost that we produce.

Biosolids compost makes an excellent mulch, soil amendment and substitute for manure
composts, peat moss and other elements used in soil mixes. Biosolids compost may be used
for landscaping and gardening purposes. While we do not recommend using compost for root
crops such as carrots and potatoes, we have many satisfied customers that use our product
on their vegetable and flower gardens.
