The first of two plants operated by Southwest Suburban Sewer District. Over the years it's been upgraded to provide for chlorine contact chambers, secondary treatment and odor scrubbing.

Southwest Suburban Sewer District began in 1955 with the construction of improved community sewer collection and treatment facilities at our Salmon Creek site (pictured here).
 
It became operational in 1957, and was upgraded in 1972 with the provision of chlorine contact chambers while still providing primary treatment. In 1985 design began on a secondary treatment upgrade, which became operational in 1989.The final phase, odor scrubbing, became operational in November, 1991.
